Snowstorm Slams Lake Charles as Blizzard Hits Louisiana

A blizzard warning was in effect for parts of southern Louisiana on Tuesday, January 21, as a winter storm was forecast to bring up to 6 inches of snow and winds up to 35 mph to parts of the state.Chad Casey captured this footage showing snow whipping around the city of Lake Charles on Tuesday, settling on palm trees, and creating snowdrifts.Tuesday marked the first time the National Weather Service Lake Charles (NWS) issued such a warning for the region. According to the NWS, the criteria for a blizzard warning include sustained or frequent wind gusts of 35 mph or greater and falling and/or blowing snow that reduces visibility to less than a quarter mile for three hours or more.The weather service warned of slick and hazardous roads, and urged motorists to use extreme caution should travel become necessary on Tuesday.
