Plane Crew Drops Fire Retardant on San Diego Wildfire

A wildfire broke out and threatened homes in Rancho Bernardo, a community in northern San Diego, California, on Wednesday morning, January 22, before its forward progress was halted with help from firefighting aircraft, fire officials said.“A fast, concentrated response supported by air units helped firefighters quickly contain the Center Fire in Rancho Bernardo today,” San Diego Fire-Rescue said. “Homes were threatened and there were initial evacuation orders, but support from nearby and partner agencies ensured no structures were damaged. The fire burned seven acres and crews will be in the area through the afternoon and evening to put out any hot spots. 175 firefighters were involved.”This footage from Jesus Arredondo shows an airplane dropping fire retardant.A Red Flag Warning was in effect for the San Diego valleys and mountains through 8pm Thursday, with the National Weather Service warning of an “uptick in Santa Ana winds” combined with “critically dry vegetation” and very low humidity.
