A devastated family returned to their neighborhood in Altadena on January 9, only to find their house, and many others nearby, reduced to smoldering rubble by the devastating Eaton Fire.Deisy Suarez-Giles recorded the heartbreaking sight as she, her husband, and their two young children drove through their neighborhood to their destroyed home.Suarez-Giles said that when her family was alerted that a fire was rapidly spreading in Eaton Canyon, they “didn’t think much of it” at first, “maybe out of denial, believing everything would be fine”.The family evacuated their home at 1:45 am on January 8, they said. “By 5 am it was gone,” Suarez-Giles said. “Everything we knew and loved had been reduced to rubble.”“It all happened so fast. We thought there would be time to return, to save more of our belongings, but within less than just five hours, the entire neighborhood was consumed,” Suarez-Giles said.According to Cal Fire, the Eaton Fire had spread to at least 13,000 acres by January 10.It and several other fires burning around Los Angeles have destroyed at least 10,000 buildings and left at least 10 dead.
