Pennsylvania State Police Release Photo of Cavalcante Arrest

Pennsylvania State Police have released a photo of the arrest of Danelo Cavalcante, the convicted murderer who was recaptured on Wednesday, September 13, after a two-week manhunt.Cavalcante was taken into custody on Wednesday morning, law enforcement authorities said in a press conference.Tactical teams were searching for Cavalcante when they were alerted to a burglar alarm shortly after midnight at a residence within the search perimeter, Pennsylvania State Police Lt Colonel George Bivens said at the press conference. The alarm was investigated but Cavalcante was not found. An aircraft then picked up a heat signal that eventually led tactical teams to Cavalcante’s location, officials said. Officers subdued Cavalcante with dogs, after he tried to get away by crawling through “thick underbrush.” No law enforcement personnel were injured, state police said, but Cavalcante sustained a “minor bite wound” from the dog that subdued him. He was apprehended shortly after 8 am, Bivens said.Cavalcante had stolen a rifle from a homeowner on Monday night, state police said, prompting authorities to ask residents in the area to lock their doors and windows and stay indoors. The photo released by state police shows Cavalcante’s hands being held behind his back by law enforcement. “Thank you to our law enforcement partners and the community whose support brought this operation to a successful conclusion,” state police wrote in the caption of the photo that was posted to X.
